La Seca, located in the heart of Rueda, the central region of Castilla-León, is the home of Bodegas Vidal Soblechero. A few years ago the family decided to give a new dimension to their huge experience in wine growing. A small winery was to be founded, searching for a different way of working to that of their neighbours, who were mainly driven by high volumes of production. Instead, quality should come first. The most important base for excellent wines - a sufficiently high amount of vineyards with old vines - had been established by Claudio Vidal Obregón, who is still responsible for the vineyards, continually for the last forty years. It's the familys aim to bottle high quality wines which reflect both the character of the region Rueda and the tradition of the grape varieties Verdejo and Tinta Fina. Today, the winery is run by Claudio Vidal's children, Alicia and Vidal.
Alicia Vidal, mother of a daughter, is a dynamic and determined manager of the winery. The merchandising is up to her and the strategic decision-making too. Her brother Vidal Vidal is responsible for the winemaking. Although he is firmly rooted in Rueda, Vidal continues to experiment, especially with the fermentation process of must in oak barrels. The results of the processes he has developed, which are rarely used in Rueda, show that more can be expected from Rueda than just classic clean white wine. Diego Pérez is responsible for all other things which have to be done in a winery. He is the faithful soul of Bodegas Vidal Soblechero.
And there is a fifth worker in the winery. One who has to oversea the vineyards: a hawk. He has to keep an eye on the vineyards and to chase away birds and other animals. That's why a stylized hawk is put on the label of each bottle of Viña Clavidor.
